If you have a Sephora in your area, call them. They have make up artists from many of the different companies that sell products in their store. If you call, you can make an appointment for a make over by a professional and they will give you whatever make up tips you want.
Another great place to go is your local M.A.C store or M.A.C. counter in a mall (Usually at Macy's and Nordstrom's) Again, call ahead, and they will schedule time for you to sit down with one of their artists for a make over. They will even give you a sheet showing you how to do what they have done to your face.
I would recommend you start with Sephora, because you will get to see all different brands, not just one.

I live in Memphis and if you ddnt know, we are surrounded in those ';pretty ghetto'; beauty supply stores and the ones here usually range in prices from 17-20 bucks...I'm assuming since u want colored ones you've already owned some before, if u have get back w/me on some tips for putting those suckers in because I have bought at least 3 pair and never was able to put them in! There is no rose berry. Do you mean rose hip? There is a carrier oil made of rose hips, but not an essential oil. There is a rose (petal)essential oil, but it's very expensive. I'm not sure if they sell it in health food or herb stores, but those would be your best bet to try.

Question about getting FREE stuff in Lush Cosmetic Stores?
I've seen people say on here that when they purchased like 20 dollars or over on lush products in their stores, that they've gotten freebies with it. Well I went into a lush store for the first time in my life today, cause I live over 200 miles from it. Anyways, since I live so far away, I bought about 55 dollars worth of products so I'd be stocked for awhile, and I got NOTHING for free along with it. I went on an interview at a cosmetic store than 99% caters to white women. As a black female coming in the store, the ladies were generally nice and asked me a few questions, one being if I would be comfortable working in a store that primarily catered to Caucasian women and if an old white lady did not want me to help her figuring that I knew nothing about the product line being of darker skin, how would I handle that. They also mentioned that they serve the Socialites in the area and some may be snobby and not want me to help them because of my darker skin. They asked if I was confy with this. I knew that this would come up in conversation being that I'm working for a cosmetics store were pretty much all of the customers will be white. One of the ladies also applauded me for considering the position knowing this. They also mentioned that even with me being different than most of the customers in the store, would I be comfortable. Well, my dear, the reality is that we are living in a society that is very judgmental about our race and color. Being from Middle East, I sympathize with you. However, here is my answer: Go for the position and show that you know what you are doing. If someone does not want you, that is their loss. In fact, considering that you are dark, you have an objective view on what looks better on a white skin versus a tanner skin. Find the names of black makeup artists that are famous and work on celebrities and remember to use those names when you are attacked with an offensive remark. Good Luck!
well, i don't know your background and expertise, a certified cosmetologist is trained to work with all skin types and all skin tones, so race really shouldn't matter, if you are confident in your knowledge. this may be a great opportunity for you to help expand the store's customer base, from grumpy old women to a hipper crowd. good luck !!!
maybe if they employed more black women they would find that more black woman were happy to shop there- actually i cannot believe that in 2007 these questions are still being asked . I work in the UK employing beauty consultants and would never dream of asking those kind off questions . Good Luck i hope you find a great job..

It seems like that ladies that you will be working with on a daily basis are friendly and nice to you. That can help a lot. If you have a nasty customer it will help to have fellow associates on your side who you can talk to. It does seem like it might be a difficult situation for you to be in. You are going to have to ask yourself if you can handle that drama that may occur on a daily basis or not at all from these snobby socialites. If you decide to take the job kudos to you for taking a position that means you will have to stand your ground and maybe show these old ladies that all people can be wonderful sales people.
Personally, I think it wasn't really rude of them to ask you that question. They were just being honest. But if I was in your position, if I think I can handle that well then I would go for it. But realistically speaking also, I would RATHER not have or I would rather choose to find another job that I would not subject myself to indifference. The truth is we are in a world/society where we are being judged with the color of our skin. And people are struggling everyday. My point is you have a choice (there are other jobs out there) you don't have to prove anything. Don't risk yourself sticking out like a sore thumb. There are a lot more jobs out there that will make you feel welcome.

I don't know, their questions seem a little bit off, like they might be trying to scare you away from wanting the position. I think it's okay for them to let you know that the majority of the customers need help with cosmetics that may be different from what you're used to. But why would they have to say that an old white woman might not want you to help her?!?! That could happen if you're a waitress, or a secretary, or in any other profession, but they don't usually bring it up in the interview! It sounds a bit strange to me.

I think you should work it girl as a beautiful black woman. Stop with the stigma and get the job. So what if you are working with the majority of white people. Tell yourself that you CAN do the job and nothing can defeat you. So what if white women don't want you to help them. You should always put yourself in someone else's shoes like how does a white person feel when they are surrounded by all blacks are they comfortable, do you make them comfortable? Don't ever let someone else discourage you from getting something you want just because of your skin color or you will be setting yourself up. Do you think Oprah let that get in her way?
Do what you need to do and represent and be the best damn makeup artist/seller that they have ever encountered.

Mac Cosmetics store question...?
I'm getting contacts soon, and I don't think I look very good without my glasses. I've never used make up before and when I do I end up looking like a transvestite even though I hardly put any make up on. I'm planning on going to the mall tomorrow and going to the Mac Cosmetics Store and have them do my make up. When I go in there do I just tell them about me getting contacts and how I'm going for a new look? How much does it cost to have them do my make up? And after that do they make you buy the make up?Mac Cosmetics store question...?

okay.. so i have a few queations about the store mac. Cause i've just gotten into mac and the next time i go there there is some thing i need to know(: ;
so my first question is at the store, Do the products even have prices on them or near them somewhere? Cuz the last time i went in there i didn't see the prices and i just like guessed how much one thing costs and got it. But when i have a smaller budget next time, i don't want to like go around asking how much everything costs and annoying the girl who works there. or am i like just supposed to remember how much everything costs from the website or something?

getting your makeup done there costs $50 and when you ask make sure you like how they did their makeup because they are gonna be the one doing yours but they'll be happy to set up an appointment with you.
and i would suggest getting a bunch of their eyeshadows they are so much fun and allow you to change your look whenever, also fluidline blitz glizt is my favorite gel liner it looks awesome

Then once you have that.. maybe start with the eyeliners %26amp; mascara?

They have a bunch of eyeshadows. there basic eyeshadows are 18$ each, there special ones are maybe like 25? i couldnt be to to sure.
There MAC brushes are quite the exspensive little things ..
They last sooo long though, so if you ever do buy them they'd last you years.
Sometimes theres deals on, so make sure you ask or something cuse i got a speical for like 50$ which came with, like 4 brushes, and a blush brush. thats an AMAZINNGG deal. so watch out for those.

Of course, you can use those cosmetics from dollar shops - they are good value for your money and some of them look actually quite nice.
however, bear in mind, the cheap cosmetics can mean cheap costs for producing them. so they are mostly made from low quality material.
any cosmetics can do harm to your skin - no matter dearer branded ones or cheaper ones. but those from bigger brands are made from better ingredients that do less harm to your skin.
however, if you insist on using cosmetics from dollar shops, make sure you do have a good makeup remover. therefore, when you take the cosmetic off, it cleanse your facial thoroughly.Is it save to get cosmetic at dollar store?
I have and had no problems with it.
they are old, or discontinued. i would never try them, you could have some bad reactions to them.
As far as expiration, it should say on the package.
They are real, and probably not expired, just discontinued. I never had a bad experience. I usually splurge on the basics like mascara, powder, and liner, and I save on the wild stuff like colored mascaras and liners and bold colors...stuff I wouldn't wear often and therefore couldnt justify the expense.
I use the shadows %26amp; powders with no problems. Foundation %26amp; eye makeup I like the more expensive - Department store brands. Very sensitive skin %26amp; eyes. Most expired even medicine is just weaker, they couldn't sell if it were dangerous.

Of course, you can use those cosmetics from dollar shops - they are good value for your money and some of them look actually quite nice.
however, bear in mind, the cheap cosmetics can mean cheap costs for producing them. so they are mostly made from low quality material.
any cosmetics can do harm to your skin - no matter dearer branded ones or cheaper ones. but those from bigger brands are made from better ingredients that do less harm to your skin.

They are real, and probably not expired, just discontinued. I never had a bad experience. I usually splurge on the basics like mascara, powder, and liner, and I save on the wild stuff like colored mascaras and liners and bold colors...stuff I wouldn't wear often and therefore couldnt justify the expense.
I use the shadows %26amp; powders with no problems. Foundation %26amp; eye makeup I like the more expensive - Department store brands. Very sensitive skin %26amp; eyes. Most expired even medicine is just weaker, they couldn't sell if it were dangerous.

Personality counts for much in cosmetic retailing so if you have a bubbly nature and you are well groomed you will be able to get an interview - then just sell yourself! You will be sent on a course to learn the make - up skills required once you are accepted.
Think about the type of cosmetic company that you would like to work for - for example, are you more Chanel (classy) or Benefit (young %26amp; trendy) or MAC (Make -up orientated) - you must actually like the products if you are going to sell them.

They can do a peak demo, for which you don't need to book or pay anything. This usualy lasts around 15min and they soley concentrate on a feature (eg, eyes, lips). You can choose what you would like. Although in busy times they might not be able to do this, so always think about when your going into the store.
Another way of gettin you're makeup done is to book a make-over session. This is booked up in advance and consists of a 45min to 1 hour make-up session. This is a full application of makeup and can be anything you want :) This does however cost 拢25 but its reedemable on products on the day of the purchaise.
These sessions are really popular (especialy on saturdays since majority of people want to go out with fab makeup :) ) The best way to look at it you get all the products you need with a full make up, and tips on how to apply it.

No you don't have to pay! Try the mac counter in selfridges, bullring. I think they have mac in debenhams bullring too. They are very busy in both shops, so you will need to book and appointment (I know this from experience!) You won't HAVE to buy anything, but you should definetly act VERY interested in the products on sale. Maybe ask for a few samples, and buy a small item, if you have the money to spare. You also won't have to pay for them to do your makeup, it is free! But like I said before, you will have to book in advance. So maybe you should go in the morning, book an appointment for later and in the mean time go shopping! The krispy kreme dohnuts on the bottom floor of selfridges are AMAZING!! They sometimes give out free ones, when they are making a fresh batch!! Haha, sorry for going off topic... I just love those dohnuts!!

Another way of gettin you're makeup done is to book a make-over session. This is booked up in advance and consists of a 45min to 1 hour make-up session. This is a full application of makeup and can be anything you want :) This does however cost 拢25 but its reedemable on products on the day of the purchaise.
These sessions are really popular (especialy on saturdays since majority of people want to go out with fab makeup :) ) The best way to look at it you get all the products you need with a full make up, and tips on how to apply it.

No you don't have to pay! Try the mac counter in selfridges, bullring. I think they have mac in debenhams bullring too. They are very busy in both shops, so you will need to book and appointment (I know this from experience!) You won't HAVE to buy anything, but you should definetly act VERY interested in the products on sale. Maybe ask for a few samples, and buy a small item, if you have the money to spare. You also won't have to pay for them to do your makeup, it is free! But like I said before, you will have to book in advance. So maybe you should go in the morning, book an appointment for later and in the mean time go shopping! The krispy kreme dohnuts on the bottom floor of selfridges are AMAZING!! They sometimes give out free ones, when they are making a fresh batch!! Haha, sorry for going off topic... I just love those dohnuts!!

not to be a contrary jerk, but all of the above answers are incorrect. you must be at least eighteen years old. you also do not *need* to have a cosmetology license, diploma from a makeup school or anything like that. however, makeup experience is a necessity because you will be doing an interview where you need to bring a model and do a full well executed makeup on the model in front of a manager. while you won't be expected to know all the details of mac's products, you will have to know how to explain all the steps you are doing and why you are using certain colours, etc.
i've been working for mac for a year and i never went to any sort of makeup school. i had just been doing makeup on myself and friends/family for several years and done tons of research online and got as much knowledge of mac and cosmetics in general.
if you don't have any ';professional'; makeup experience, just play up what experience you do have in your resume such as art school or any art experience, how long you have been using mac or known about mac products, how confident you are in knowledge of their products, times when you've done makeup on other people, etc. you can totally sell yourself in other ways other.

MAC all the way....stays on forever. I was in a wedding once and applied it on at 5am in the morning and it did not move untill I took it off when I got home after midnight!! They have beautiful colours too.
I think M.A.C. is the better quality makeup. Of course I would use other make-up with it, certain items that are your favorite such as blush or eye shadow.
What ever you choose use a spun and quality foundation and lipstick.

These are all with in Walking distance of the National Stadium station of the Skytrain.

I figured since the brushes are going back on my face I should wash them with something I know will not irritate my face.... So I washed all my brushes with a dab of my face wash and some warm water. I let them dry overnight and they were perfect in the morning. They actually feel even softer than before!What is the best way to clean makeup brushes without cleaner from a cosmetic store?

I use Shampoo.Gently message it through the brush and lather then rinse and repeat.When done,use your blow dryer to dry it.Works great.

I have developed an expensive makeup habit since discovering stores like Sephora, but a girl has to economize somewhere, so it is always worth checking out the cheaper alternatives. E.L.F. offers some products that in my opinion are very similar to or a good substitute for some popular, coveted beauty items. I decided to give them a try on a few items, and I found myself getting even more compliments when using the E.L.F. Mauve Luxe Soothing Lip Gloss than I have gotten using lipstick brands such as LipFusion and Nars. I placed several larger orders, and found an overall level of product quality. While I am still devoted to many of my higher end brands, E.L.F has several items worth your while. Three features of E.L.F cosmetics that make them worth consideration are the quality of ingredients and packaging, the tools for better makeup application, and the availability of cheap substitutes for expensive products that produce some of the best makeup tricks. i think they do in walmart, but they definitely have it online.
there mineral products are ok, they're really shimmery. i like to use the foundation to set my regular foundation, it adds a nice shimmer and sets it well, not that great on it own though.
the blush is pretty much sparkly powder.
i like there:

-lipgloss
-brow gel
-makeup tools
-lip treatment
but remember, you get what you pay for. i wouldn't repurchase anything else but the tools. the products i listed are decent, not amazing but decent, worth trying. its only $1
I don't know if they are sold in stores, you may be able to find out on their website, but I ordered some things from their site and you definatly get what you pay for! The quality was so bad I couldn't even stand to use them!!! And they smelled horrible! Buy with caution!

Ever worked at a Cosmetics Store?
I always feel bad going into a cosmetics store, like Sephora, and trying on the samples and not buying anything. My friends go in all the time and give each other makeovers and feel no guilt. I was wondering what people who worked at these kinds of stores think of this? Is it normal, or annoying and frustrating? Is it alright to try on a lot of makeup without intending to buy it?Ever worked at a Cosmetics Store?

LIfestyle in gurgaon or noida have loreal, revlon and max factor.. but for mac you dont have retail outlet.. but will surely get the stuff in greater kailash 2 M block market. in this store called kunchals.. there a lot many more stores which claim to sell original mac products. dont believe them. most of them are fake replicas.

I have been working in cosmetic sales for years and know that there is a difference in pay between people who work for the department stores and those who work directly for the company. If you were to work for Sephora then you will only make like $8-$10.00/hr because it's a independent company.

Is storing makeup in the refrigerator better for your cosmetics?
I read some place on the net that it keeps them usable longer and might slow down the inevitable tossing deadline.Is storing makeup in the refrigerator better for your cosmetics?
I have found that putting them in the freezer is a good idea. not liquids of course- just the eye shadow pencils, liners, etc. I have found that they go on smoother, last longer, and has more of a ';glow'; appearance, %26amp; It doesn't cake or clump when u do this. Mascara-, I don't store anywhere but room temp 4 obvious reasons. I dont use liquids 4 my face- but if u do- u could put them in the fridge 4 smoother appearance.
